Following the European Mandate 420 to CEN (European Committee for Standardisation), two teams of experts have prepared a report on European and International accessibility standards in the built environment. The report will be discussed at an Open Meeting at CEN Headquarters in Brussels (Belgium), on 28 September 2011.

Mandate 420 seeks to establish the nature and status of accessibility legislation, standards and design guidelines, as well as monitoring and control systems in European Union Member States and other countries.

The first phase of the work analyses the current situation and shall present recommendations and a plan for the development of possible EU-wide access standards for the built environment.

The study examines, in particular, the role of public procurement in achieving an accessible environment for all citizens.
