From 28 to 30 September 2011 a major international conference on ageing-friendly cities took place in Dublin. The conference, organised by the World Health Organisation Network of Age- friendly cities, Ireland’s Age-Friendly Counties Programme and the International Federation on Ageing, was attended by 400 delegates from across the world that came to learn and hear from experts and professionals on what they can do to improve their community for older people.

The eight domains covered by the conference and the workshops were:

  • community support and health services
  • transportation
  • housing
  • civic participation and employment
  • respect and social inclusion
  • social participation
  • communication and information
  • outdoor spaces and public buildings

At the end of the conference the Dublin Declaration on Age-Friendly Cities and Communities to solicit support for action in the eight domains has been launched at the conference and signed by a core group of mayors and leaders from across the world.
